PERSONAL SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

Outline

I.     Purpose of the Course

Teach students the supreme value of heart devotion to Christ. Practical applications. Academic excellence, though desirable, fruitless apart from Christ-centered life. (I Corinthians 13:1-3)

Quotations

"A laborer can be subtly steered away from being Christ-centered to being ministry-centered .... With the immensity of the task, it can be easy to shift from Christ Himself to Christ's work. That change contains the seeds of disaster."  Navigator Magaine.

"Possible to have well trained but barren graduates."

"A chilling orthodoxy without a living Christ."

"Scriptural knowledge however profound and extensive, Biblical Criticism however accurate and valuable, may leave the heart barren and the affections cold. Our great need is to find the Lord Jesus Christ in the Word, and having found Him to feed on Him by faith." C. H. MacIntosh.

Dr. Boice - In Eternity, March 1986: "In a recent survey of a theological college in the United States 93 per cent of those students preparing for the ministry confessed to no devotional life at all. It is a sad situation. Without deep communion with God,  preaching lacks power and will inevitably be despised."
